With the completion of the LIFE PLASMIX project, there are several conclusions that are obtained after several years of operation and hard work by the consortium that makes up the project:

1. Despite the hard work carried out by those involved in the project, it has not been possible to adequately valorize the EPS material. Due to its molecular structure that breaks down the material when it is subjected to a mechanical washing process. However, its recovery has been possible using optical separators. However, the transportation of this fraction is not economically viable due to its low density.

2. The recovery of PS has finally been ruled out due to the decrease in this material contained in the waste. Which indicates that it is a disused material.

3. The remaining fraction of Spain’s waste still contains a multitude of materials that can be recovered. Therefore, it is still possible to increase recovery ratios and thus get closer to the guidelines indicated by the EU regarding material recovery and disposal of waste to landfill. Even more so when it comes to the Plastic mix.

Therefore, due to the previous problem, the EPS and PS recovered are replaced by PET and HDPE contained in the plastic mixture. Proving to be equally economically viable.
